Tutors in the Classroom
The Classroom Tutor supports the work of a classroom teacher by working directly with students to reinforce previously taught skills and concepts in literacy and numeracy. They are responsible for providing individual and small group tutoring to students in kindergarten to grade 8. Training opportunities will be provided.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities
Must be a post-secondary student currently enrolled in an Ontario University or College program or have graduated from a post-secondary program.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Self-motivated, organized and demonstrates initiative
Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
Seeks feedback and demonstrates a willingness to implement feedback to improve practice
High level of patience
Ability to be sensitive to the needs of all students
Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners
High level of attention to confidentiality
Proficient in the use of word processing software, internet and email
Willingness to learn and apply specific current intervention strategies
Manual dexterity required to use computer and peripherals
Ability to provide regular attendance
Experience in a classroom setting and/or working with children and youth is an asset.
ADDITONAL INFORMATION
Scheduling for this position will vary between schools, based on need and availability. Salary is $29.60 per hour.
