Position Overview
The Learning Coordinator is responsible for promoting and supporting a corporate learning culture. Conversant in corporate core competencies and integrates competency models within learning opportunities. Designs and delivers corporate training including course administration, materials and in-class or on-line delivery. Coordinates various learning projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities
Development and Delivery of Learning Sessions and Initiatives
• Provides administrative support and assistance in course development and/or course updates.
• Determines learning objectives and outcomes for learning sessions and delivers learning sessions to management and staff, utilizing adult learning principles and a variety of instructional approaches/methodologies.
• Contributes to the development and delivery of corporate learning initiatives that enhance and support the creation of a corporate learning culture.
• Promotes new and existing learning sessions through a variety of methods using both paper and electronic formats (i.e. e-learning, blended learning, etc.).
• Makes recommendations as to the quality and relevance of new programs and courses and assists in the research, development and delivery of corporate learning curricula.
• Delivers team building/ice breaker requests and facilitation of mostly already created sessions in the learning catalogue.
• Utilizes current evaluative methods to determine the effectiveness of materials and delivery and to recommend future planning needs.
Program Management
• Assists in planning and designing new corporate learning courses and programs and customized learning sessions, including researching materials/resources and creating training workbooks/aids and PowerPoint presentations and facilitating sessions and meetings.
• Promotes programs and responds to client questions and inquiries.
• Assists with managing the Learning & Organizational Development (L&OD) mailbox (monitoring and responding to emails, triaging to correct individuals where applicable etc.).
• Maintains organization and stewardship of all L&OD content in a shared organizational data environment.
• Provides administrative support and gathers information on courses to be offered in the learning catalogue (updating sessions on Learning Management System client outreach, tracking sessions, gathering information from facilitators, scheduling training rooms and equipment as needed, etc.).
• Assists with creating content for and the distribution of the monthly L&OD newsletter.
• Assists with the coordination of training events (i.e., take your kids to work day, program graduations, etc.)
Liaison, Communication, and Customer Services
• Recommends training for new hires, new managers and existing employees.
• Participates on committees, work groups and task forces, as required.
• Liaises with learning professionals in other municipalities, academic institutions, external facilitators/consultants, and vendors/suppliers.
• Demonstrates a strong orientation towards team partnership, working productively and effectively in a consultative and collaborative environment alongside colleagues and internal clients
Qualifications and Experience
• Successful completion of a Diploma or Certification in Adult Learning, or suitable equivalent.
• Minimum of three (3) years' experience in adult learning, facilitation, program design, delivery, and evaluation. Experience working within a corporate learning and development division and learning management systems. Preferably in a unionized, public-sector environment.
• Thorough knowledge of relevant Ontario employment legislation and current employment principles and practices.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in applying adult learning principles and practices, instructional design, needs analysis, delivery, measurement, and evaluative methods.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of learning mediums including electronic presentation technologies, integrated multimedia, and on-line learning technologies, e-learning curriculum authoring tools, video conferencing, and in-house classroom design.
• Demonstrated high level of critical thinking with the ability to perform in a proactive and strategic manner.
• Demonstrated ability to build high levels of credibility within diverse work groups by implementing effective communication and engagement strategies coupled with the ability to develop productive and sustainable partnerships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders. Ability to foster collaborative working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
• Ability to conduct oneself in a manner bestowing tact and diplomacy within a political environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to balance coinciding and competing priorities, develop and implement strategies and work plans.
• Excellent training, facilitation, presentation, communication, research and writing skills.
• Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications including proficiency in word processing and presentation applications and in conducting internet research/searches; familiarity with e learning programs, learning management systems, authoring tools and web-based evaluation tools.
• Knowledge of MS Office and common software programs to produce accessible documents, presentations and materials in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
• Sound knowledge of office practices and procedures in a computerized environment.
• Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in, the City's core competencies and relevant functional competencies.
• Valid 'G' driver's license in good standing with access to a reliable vehicle.
• Flexible to work outside normal business hours, as required.
