Afternoon Operations Manager

Compensation Range: $27.88 – 37.57 hourly

What Will You Do?
- Oversee the activities of the Operations team during the night shift. This includes supervision, recruitment and discipline of personnel, communication with staff, probationary and annual staff performance evaluations, dealing with employee issues and concerns, managing the movement of freight and overseeing the terminal operations during day and evening shifts.
- Oversee and plan daily manpower needs to ensure customers’ freight is delivered and picked-up timely and damage free.
- Develop and maintain SOP’s as necessary as per company standard
- Attend the weekly Operations meeting, and give notice when unable to attend (currently help on Wednesday at 3:00pm, but schedule may change
- Move and monitor freight according to delivery schedules and appointment times. Work closely with Driver services, Dock, Yard and Operations Team to ensure priority of loading.
- Document all employee communication regarding discipline. Work with HR Advisor to administer all employee discipline when necessary.
- With the assistance of the Management team in the operations department, plan, monitor and schedule staff to ensure all positions are covered.
- With the assistance of the Management team in the operations department, review driver bid runs and assign equipment to drivers when necessary.
- Prepare an analysis of all KPI indicators to measure and improve delivery operations.
- Responsible for complete knowledge of dispatch system, routing and dock procedures paper flow. Ensure that all company policies are followed by the operations team to ensure proper customer service.
- When necessary, assist: the Terminal Manager with projects.
- Constant open communication with all operational staff to ensure that operations continue to run smoothly and efficiently.
- Work with the other terminals and communicate with both Operations Managers to consistently improve freight flow and communication.
- Monitor and analyze all opportunities to cut costs and improve efficiencies.
- All other duties as required.
Who Are We Looking For?
- Previous experience working the night shift
- Understanding of routing, OS&D, dock, yard procedures, in addition to paper flow as it relates to the operation.
- Excellent communication skills, verbally and written. Ability to provide praise and constructive criticism.
- Quality decision making skills.
- Positive attitude with proven people skills.
- Dispatch and operational background is a must.
- Ability to remain calm in high demand peeks.
- Fluent computer skills, including dispatch software, Microsoft Office, and spreadsheet- based programs.
- Strong time management and organizational skills including planning and scheduling.
- Cross-training for the ability to cover for operational positions where need be.
