This role is an on-site role at our Ottawa office.
We are seeking a dynamic Research Scientist Co-op Student with a strong focus on software development to contribute to our team. As a technically adept individual, you will play a vital role in assisting us to achieve our objectives. This role requires someone who is naturally curious, creative, and analytical, with a passion for exploring new technologies. Your responsibilities will include conducting ongoing research, swiftly evaluating potential solutions, and proficiently prototyping proof-of-concept applications. Furthermore, you will be instrumental in scaling up these solutions into production-ready software for our customers. WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Collaborate with other cross-functional teams making sure that the challenges they face are well understood.
- Gather ideas from background knowledge, scientific journals and publications, industry experts and other technology areas to generate hypothesis for potential solutions.
- Rapidly prototype proof-of-concept solutions to quickly identify the most effective ideas.
- Apply specific expertise in your role to successfully turns the best ideas into high quality beta applications and then scale up to production software applications.
WHO YOU ARE
- Must be a post-secondary student enrolled in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics or related disciplines.
- Experience with the following will be considered a strong asset:
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud compute resources, as well as massively parallel processing using Graphics Processing Units (GPUs)
- Image Processing of very large multi-modal data sets including image distortion correction, warping, morphing, segmentation, stitching and registration
- Object tracking, focus classification, illumination correction.
- Machine Learning and neural networks
- Graphs, graph search, and working with very large databases.
- Software tools like ImageJ, OpenCV, OpenSeaDragon, Python, Java, TensorFlow
- Strong analytical problem diagnosis skills
- Ability to independently find, organize and present information clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated record of learning rapidly and mastering diverse techniques.
- Tenacity, persistence, and an inquisitive mindset.
